HMB´S REVIEW
One of the most devastatingly bleak experiences I’ve encountered in music, Winterthermia by Reverie is pure desolation captured in sound. There’s no joy here, no fleeting moments of happiness, no sense of resolution or hope. It’s an unrelenting plunge into darkness, and that’s exactly what makes it so disturbingly brilliant. This isn’t music designed for escapism — it’s a mirror to the bleakest corners of existence.

For an entirely instrumental album, Winterthermia manages to evoke emotions so raw and painful that words almost feel futile in describing the experience. The compositions reject the concept of resolution. There’s no beginning, no middle, and certainly no end in the traditional sense. Instead, these tracks spiral endlessly around anguish, as if each note is a nail driven deeper into your consciousness. It’s minimalism wielded as a weapon of sorrow.

The standout track is undoubtedly Winterthermia III. The droning, piercing guitars are both hypnotic and agonizing, lulling you into a trance while simultaneously ripping your insides apart. That opening riff? Absolutely gut-wrenching, a pure expression of pain. Minimalism has rarely sounded this powerful or purposeful — JJ, you’ve crafted something both devastating and masterful here. The track demonstrates how music doesn’t need complexity to communicate depth; sometimes raw, sustained anguish is more than enough.

For those brave enough to immerse themselves in Winterthermia, it becomes a trusted companion in times when life feels unbearably dark. There’s a strange comfort in knowing that this album stands right alongside you in those moments, whispering that your pain isn’t solitary.

If you choose to experience this record, turn the lights out, shut your door, and surrender fully. Let it take you wherever it will — you will be stripped of your soul, but perhaps that’s the point.
