A review-aggregation website for heavy metal and hard rock albums

Music has always been an integral part of our lives, growing up in Rio. We started with local rock bands back in the 80s and 90s, like Ultraje a Rigor, and Legiao Urbana. In the early 90s, we got into the Brazilian metal scene with Angra, Sepultura and Viper. Everything changed for us with two events in the 90s: the second Rock In Rio festival, when we got our first exposure to the big names of rock and metal – Sepultura, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Guns N’ Roses, Billy Idol… Just to name a few. The other one was the arrival of MTV Brazil in UHF frequency. Hell yeah, that was a game changer – our daily dose of metal at a pre-internet and pre-streaming time. We found out about most of our favorite bands through MTV Brazil, and also coincide with the arrival of grunge to the scene. We still remember vividly when Kurt Cobain passed away, as it was around the same time that we met and our affinity for metal only grew stronger.

Metal music also helped us with our language skills. Other than playing video games, that’s how most of Latin American kids learned English back in the day. Iron Maiden was our favorite metal band (and still is to this day), and interesting enough we saw Bruce Dickinson on his solo tour before we saw Maiden for the first time with Blaze Bailey (at the Monsters of Rock in August 1996 with Motorhead and Skid Row).

We jumpstarted it all in August 2022, when our Instagram profile @heavymetalbest went live. We did not know which direction to go, so we kept posting about the newest releases that year and sharing our thoughts. One of the things we noted was that there was so many websites and social media accounts relating to metal, but not one stop-and-shop place where we could get all information at once. We hoped for Heavy Metal Best to be that place, or at least for the newest album releases. Nevertheless, the idea was brewing right then and there.

We are a bunch of metalheads whose passion for heavy music have driven us to this moment, wherein we bring to you the best metal albums of the year and give you the opportunity to rate your favorites of all time. We hope that you enjoy this website and let us know what you all think about your favorite metal bands and albums of the year.
