HMB´S REVIEW
Arcane Frost Full-Length Debut

Released on January 3, 2026 via Bleeding Heart Nihilist Productions, Night’s Cavalry marks the first full-length studio album by the German band Arcane Frost, hailing from Wolfsburg and active in the Black Metal underground scene since 2015.

Atmosphere and Identity

Arcane Frost has always cultivated a sound that evokes icy and somber moods, a blend of raw black metal with melodic touches and a production that relies more on raw feeling than excessive polish, creating an atmosphere that harkens back to the classic traditions of European Black Metal without sounding like mere imitation.

This record extends these characteristics and deepens its proposal: with seven tracks totaling just over 30 minutes, Night’s Cavalry is direct and cohesive, without unnecessary moments, keeping the listener immersed in icy and cavernous landscapes from start to finish.

Composition and Highlights

The compositions move between cutting riffs and passages that favor tension and atmosphere, without falling into ethereal Black Metal. The album leans more toward a raw and direct approach, flirting with elements of Black n’ Roll at certain moments.

Tracks like 'Swarming Rats' and 'Passing the Lychgate' clearly showcase this duality: precise and aggressive riffs balanced with a sense of melancholy and desolation, almost cinematic, ideal for those seeking emotional involvement as much as sonic intensity.

Production

At times I had the impression that the vocals seem sunken in the mix, with the guitars dominating the sonic spectrum, which may hinder the clarity of the vocal lines in some moments.

This, however, ends up connecting with the band’s overall aesthetic: a less polished production that emphasizes raw and visceral feeling, something many enthusiasts of the classic style value, even if others might prefer a more balanced sound.

Conclusion

Night’s Cavalry is a solid and promising debut for Arcane Frost. It is not an album that will reinvent the genre, but it delivers focused, cold, and convincing Black Metal, with its own identity and an effective balance between ferocity and melody. Recommended both for fans of traditional Black Metal and for those who appreciate a more underground and raw sound.
